Yes, we train service dogs. Click HERE to learn more.
No, we provide service dogs to any individual with a medically substantiated disability.
Currently, we have an approximate waiting list of 3-5 years. However, our placements are NOT conducted on a first come, first served basis. We match service dogs with clients based on many factors. Our Owner Trainer Academy may be an option for you as there is no waiting list for this program at this time. We also encourage individuals to research other service dog organizations that may be of assistance.
If you have a medically substantiated disability, the first step would be to fill out our service dog application.
Unfortunately, we do not train or certify therapy dogs through our program. However, you can check out Pet Partners (formerly Delta Society) or other organizations that train and certify therapy animals. Please note therapy animals do NOT have public access.
We do not train or certify emotional support animals through our program. Please note emotional support animals do NOT have public access.
Yes, we do train dogs specifically for PTS. HERE is a link to information about our PTS service dog program. We train PTS service dogs for veterans, first-responders and civilians.
Once we receive your application and all required documentation including medical substantiation forms, behavioral health forms (if applicable) and any other required documentation, you will be notified that your application has been completed. Once we have a potential service dog match for your unique situation, we will contact you for an interview. You are always welcome to check in with us throughout the entire process.
Beyond the application fee, there is no charge to obtain a program-trained service dog through Custom Canines. Our Owner Trainer Academy has a modest tuition. You can learn more about the Owner Training Academy here.
We occasionally accept donated puppies from breeders who meet our high standard of health and temperament. Proof of health clearances are required for both sire and dam of the puppy. Clearance requirements vary depending on the breed of dog. Please contact info@customcanines.org for additional information.
We primarily place service dogs within the Midwest and southern California. We place and support service dog teams throughout the country if our resources allow.
